Every tourist that sends a day or two at Las Vegas inevitably comes away from the city of sin with a hole in their wallet and a hole in their new deck of cards. Any truly inquisitive tourist inevitably asks: why is there a hole in my cards? While this may seem like a silly question to ask the poker community, that hole in the cards actually speaks volumes. Let’s first start with the real reason why the casinos punch holes in their used decks. They punch holes in the cards so that the decks cannot be used in actual play again. This is supposed to prevent the old cold card online poker cheating technique.
The truth is that casinos now have the technology to prevent old decks being used in actual play. They don’t need to punch a physical hole in the deck to keep you from slipping it onto the table. The hole in your cards is just a gimmick for the tourists. They are perfectly okay to use in any online poker game that you play in a casual setting. Just tell your friends that the hole in their cards will help prevent a hole in their wallets. They will be sure to enjoy the novelty of something new and different at the poker table.

Yawn. You’re doing it again. Another Yawn, and you’re eyes are blurred, and really you just want to go to sleep, but you’re on such a good poker online run. Then, in your hazy mind, you make that bad call you wouldn’t have made and you lose your stack. It happens to us all, but it’s something to watch out for in the future. Now repeat after me. Don’t. Play. When. You. Are. TIRED. Did you get all that? Good. See, what happens when you’re tired is you stop thinking as clearly, you start making bad online poker calls, you start getting impatient. If you didn’t know, people who have been awake for more than 14 or so hours at the casino online experience a delusional type state where their cognition is down, and thus their reasoning suffers. So next time you sit down for a session, ask yourself, how many hours have you been playing. Ask yourself what your peak is, and when it’s over, no matter how your running, take your winnings and run. I’ve seen it happen to too many good players to let you guys make the same mistake. Someone sits down for a six hour session, grinds his way up to 3 max buy-ins, and then in an hour loses it all during his seventh hour. That’s not to say six hours is optimal, as everybody has his or her own limits and boundaries of how long they can keep their concentration. But if your tired, it’s in the best interest of your bank roll to leave the felt, and put the cards or keyboard down for a while and get a nice little nap in. Trust me, you’ll be playing much more optimally if you do.

Playing online poker with someone who deals them professionally for a living is, on its face, a rather strange proposition. Most would say that these people who have literally watched thousands of players play thousands of hands day after day would grow into a stature of judgment and experience that few can muster.
And while many online poker dealers are often excellent and sharp players, there is a tendency among them, in my experience, to throw a strong measure of gamble into their game. First, they are so used to the way things go down that many of them want to play quicker action. You don’t see a lot of infinitely patient dealer players, as for them, they are only a couple seats over from where they sit when they work.
As a result, though it is not quite a rule, you can expect the player who announces himself as a dealer of online poker to be both slightly more than commonly aggressive, and ready to pounce literally at any sign of weakness. Though they can be slick players to get a hold on, the best way to lean against them is to let them lean their own sense of experience right into your clutches.

The game of poker tends to generate controversy. One issue that spawns heated debate is whether it is a game of skill or luck. It varies in the U.S., where poker is classified as a game of skill in some states and is legally played in card rooms and the casino. But some states ban poker as a gambling game of luck.
Luck obviously plays a factor because one never knows what card will materialize. But that is where some skill can also come into play. By knowing how to calculate “outs” - how many cards are left in the deck to complete a hand - a player can make a more informed playing decision based on probabilities.
By figuring out pot odds, which compares the profit potential against the bet amount, a player can determine if and what to bet. These are learned skills, and players who use them are better able to make luck go their way.
Another skill that is fundamental in poker is being able to observe other players and get a “read” on the cards they are holding.
It is no coincidence that the same players take home the most cash or consistently make it to final tournament tables. These players know that luck can win or lose the hand for them. But they also understand that a lot of luck depends on recognizing opportunity. Savvy poker players learn how to apply percentages and pay attention to their opponents’ actions in order to capitalize on opportunities.

The World Poker Tour has long been part of the NASDAQ trading sphere, trading under the name Intermix Media, Inc. However, with a senior partner Lakes Entertainment, INC looking to break from the company and shares falling below 1.00 USD per share, the new CFO Thomas Flahieis having to deal with the same problems that many other smaller businesses are in the current economic downturn.
In August, WTP, INC received a letter from NASDAQ that their company was on the verge of delisting. NASDAQ requires that shares meet the 1.00 USD minimum to continue to be listed and traded on their network. Yesterday the stock closed at just over .50 USD. NASDAQ gives companies 180 days to become compliant with their listing requirements else face removal from the trading list.
Currently WPT has used up about 45 days, so they still have quite a bit of time to get their finances in order.
And WPT CEO Steve Lipscomb remains optimistic about the poker company’s ability to rebound on in the stock market. The plan is to switch the focus away from their online gaming market and work more with sponsors and advertising. After all the WPT has expanded into the global market recently and has a highly coveted television audience.
For the sake of our poker and gambling brethren we hope WPT can get it together and weather these trouble times, keeping the gambling market open and strong for the people who enjoy so much the fruits of the labor that WTP and other’s like them have given to us.

In Texas Holdem, as with most other poker games, often the amount of profit you show comes down to a matter of risk and reward: how much am I risking to win how much? While pot odds and implied odds are both important factors in determining your decision on how to manage a poker hand, there are benefits and disadvantages to styles that put emphasis on both made hands preflop and large drawing hands, defined by the flop.
While a lot of poker players, particularly new ones or ones less inclined to gamble, tend towards playing big made hands preflop, a lot of the time you see poker pros like Daniel Negreanu and Gus Hansen playing weird suited connectors and other hands more typically defined as weak. These hands, known for drawing, are attractive often because their risk is much more clearly defined: you either hit the hand and win a potentially large pot, or you miss it and have no trouble folding.
Playing small pairs and suited connectors are great in this way in that you can get in for a small investment and then don’t have to involve yourself when the hand doesn’t pan out, making the risk very small. Hands such as big pairs, which are often deemed the most coveted hands, can often end up breaking your stack just as easily as they can double you up. Therefore, the risk on these hands, while starting off as the favorite, end up perhaps putting you at a greater chance of risk, unless you a really great reader of opponents.
