How Wireless VoIP Phones Work

August 30th, 2008

The functioning of wireless VoIP phones is similar to that of regular VoIP phones but Wireless VoIP phones combine VoIP technology and Wi-Fi (wLAN) systems. Users need to be in the range of the wireless node in order to make and receive calls. And when they are in the Wi-Fi’s reach, they are able to do a lot of the same calling functions enabled by regular desktop VoIP phones. When one is already equipped with a wireless local area network as well as VoIP phones, adding wireless VoIP phones can be a logical step.

Wireless VoIP phones are also known as VoWLAN or voice over wireless local network areas and Wi-Fi phones. The working of wireless VoIP phones involves a data network to which Wi-Fi equipment is connected. The network itself can either be independent, or connected to the Internet or the public phone system. The equipment enables high-speed wireless connection to unlimited access points.

Each access point has an antenna to catch the signal from the Wi-Fi equipment and broadcast it in a 300-foot radius or a hot spot. Within the radius all Wi-Fi enabled laptops, personal digital organizers and wireless phones can tune into the signal.

In wireless VoIP phones, the voice is converted into segments of data for transmission from the phone antenna to the Wi-Fi radio waves and then received by the data network. Here the data segments reverse the process to reach an extension or the traditional phone network. In other words, an extension can be carried around.

Although there is no argument about wireless VoIP phones being advantageous, they have their share of shortcomings as well. Fore one, they can not yet completely replace hard-wire VoIP phones mainly due to lack of reliability and the limited functions of wireless phones currently available in comparison to desktop phones.

However the biggest disadvantage in wireless VoIP phones is the limit on the number of simultaneous calls that can be made. The maximum number of calls in each wireless system cannot exceed five or ten. This seriously undermines its call handling capability in a large corporate environment.

Nevertheless, the dramatic reduction in operational costs has made it possible for wireless operators with high quality compressed VoIP to bring the ease and comfort of cordless calling to the VoIP world.

Fight Back Locust Plagues Over Lake Victoria in Africa

August 30th, 2008

The Locust Plagues threaten to devastate crops in Africa, but can we use modern technology, namely acoustic directional sound waves, to defeat them? One research believes it is possible and announced his plans to do so in an online think tank recently. Warren Powers has a plan and has done research which leads him to believe it is now possible to beat these locust plagues once and for all.

An acoustical sound wave beam will be blasted at the Locust Swarm while they fly over the lake causing them to crash into the lake and become fish food. Now then, the insects, which fall in the water will make a virtual island and therefore the others will simply land on top of them and have a land bridge, so you need an AUV Autonomous Underwater Vehicle to churn them under the water.

Other wise they will simply sit there until you turn off the sound and take off again or find a way to start again, as you may not be able to disable all of them; unless you use a dirigible or Blimp and send the sound downward rather than sideways from a barge.

Next point in the planned Lake Victoria surprise attack ambush on the Locust Plague; if there are algae blooms, then the last thing you want to do is add high-amounts of protein into the lake. Why? Well we know from chicken feathers and Pig Farms in South Carolina that you can cause flesh eating bacteria to grow and it will get into the local fish populations and end up down stream into perhaps drinking water and into other aquatic life down rivers. Not good.

Extremely problematic, so the concept of fish food is okay only after a food chain check shows this is okay. You are talking tons and tons of fish food super high in protein, which should increase fish populations too, it is important to consider this as well.

Next point a barge with all the directional acoustical harmonic sound beam equipment on it could find itself misplaced by a considerable distance from the guestimate of the swarm passage route, thus need much higher power and if there is too much moisture in the air the sound waves will change in their effectiveness due to water droplets.

Also if the swarm is right over the barge you can have an enclosure for the operators, but the generators will need lots of air for the engines and cooling. If those air-filters are clogged by millions of locusts, you lose and are forced to shut down. Mission is a failure although you still have the data of what was accomplished for future use. If we are to stop these swarms we must get tough and consider all the details. Comment on this in 2006.

Turn Your Website Traffic Into Revenue

August 23rd, 2008

Making money on the internet is no great mystery - many people have done it in many ways, and you can take advantage of their experience. It is not an easy task to accomplish, but then nothing worthwhile is. If you have a website, it is time to start turning your traffic into revenue that you can use to pay your monthly hosting bills, and maybe even work on your websites full time.

While there are a multitude of ways to make money from your website, different methods are better for different websites. From text ads to affiliate programs, choosing the right program is the first step to turning your website into a cash generating machine.

Informational Websites

Probably the most straight forward type of website to monetize are those that provide information about a certain topic. You don’t need your users to buy anything or sign up for anything, they simple need to be on your website. The ideal type of ad for an informational website is probably the contextual ad, although depending on your site and your traffic you should shop around the various providers and pick the best one for your site.

Google Adsense

The most popular contextual advertiser, and probably the best place to start. Sign up for an adsense account (it’s free) and in a day or so you should be approved. Follow the simple steps to get the code for your website, and then just insert it. Now you’ve got ads running on your website.

As easy as adsense is to set up, maximizing its effectiveness is another matter entirely. There is no easy answer to this, and the best advice is to experiment with different ad placements and sizes. What works for one page may not work for another. The most effective way to use adsense is to integrate it into your page content so it looks like that web page and not an ad. With google’s code generating, you can customize how your ad looks, which helps when integrating.

Adsense also automatically searches your site and displays ads that are relevant to your subject matter. This can either be a good thing or a bad thing, as you run the risk of displaying competing websites on your pages, which you probably don’t want. There is a solution to this, in that you can add filters to your adsense account, so google will not display ads for a certain url that you specify.

Adsense is a great tool to start monetizing your website, and it may be the only tool you need. It is very easy to get up and running, and very little upkeep is required. However, it is most effective when used on sites with a lot of text, so if your website isn’t informational in nature adsense is probably not your best option.

Yahoo Publisher Network

Yahoo Publisher Network, or YPN for short, is Yahoo’s answer to adsense. While it is currently in beta, you can apply for an invitation and begin running YPN ads on your site if you are accepted. Follow the same methods you used with adsense when using YPN, and compare which plan generates more money for you. Note that you CANNOT run adsense and YPN ads on the same page.

Affiliate Programs

If your website has information on a certain product, it might be worth it to join an affiliate network for that type of product. When you sign up as an affiliate, you are basically generating leads for a parent company. So if you happen to have a site that has book reviews, it would be a good idea to sign up as an affiliate to a book store and then send users who wish to buy the book to a site where they can purchase the book, and you get a percentage of the purchase price.

Amazon and commission junction are two excellent affiliate programs. Most good affiliate programs will let you customize the look and feel of how you send visitors to their site, so in essence the only thing they do would be process an order.

While affiliate it can be difficult to get up and running with an affiliate related site, it can be immensely rewarding. The best way to generate revenue is to make it as easy as possible for the user to buy whatever product you are advertising. Set up your affiliate links so they can clink on a single link and be taken to the parent companies purchase page and you stand a much better chance of making a sale.

Service Websites

Not all websites are dedicated to bringing the user information. Many sites bring the user a service, such as image hosting. In this situation contextual ads like adsense and YPN aren’t ideal, since there isn’t a lot of information to determine what ads to display. In this situation, its better to use a non-contextual advertiser so you can control what type of ads are displayed.

Adbrite

Adbrite is a great alternative to the contextual based ad networks like YPN and adsense. Adbrite still runs text ads, but they don’t necessarily have to have anything to do with your page. You sign up with adbrite, and then other webmasters pay you to run their ads on your page. You can again customize the way the ads look, and you can deny sites from running their ads on your page if you wish.

Adbrite is ideal for sites that might not have a lot of text, such as image hosting sites. You are able to determine how much to charge for other webmasters to display their ads on your page, so if your site has good traffic you can make some good money with this.

While there are many other options that you can and should explore to turn your website traffic into revenue, the suggestions above are a good start. Try them out, experiment with different placements and colors, and see how you do. Don’t get discouraged if at first you aren’t making any money, try changing the look, feel and placement of the ads and give it some time.

3 Stages of Alzheimer’s Disease

August 21st, 2008

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurological disease that affects an estimated 4.5 million Americans. Alzheimer’s disease is characterized initially by memory loss but in its later stages also by loss of mental functioning including language, reasoning and understanding and reading and writing. It is the most common cause of dementia.

The devastation of Alzheimer’s disease (Alzheimer’s disease) affects millions of families in the United States and costs can be measured in mental, physical, emotional, and financial terms. The primary caregiver is the one who suffers most. This is the person who tends to a loved one requiring progressively more attention and eventually total care.
There are many things that can be done to safely tend to the patient while preserving the emotional and physical health of the caregiver.
The patient can be combative and otherwise uncooperative when bathing and dressing time comes. Planning this out can help a lot. Make sure you use rubber mats to avoid slipping. Make sure all bathing necessities are within reach. Bathrooms should have grab bars and shower seats. This can be a tremendous help. Be very careful about water temperature.
There is much information available defining the progression of the stages of Alzheimer’s disease and this information can take many forms. For the sake of simplicity, we describe the progression in terms of three main stages.

Early Stage:

In the Early Stage Alzheimer’s disease, the evidence of memory and concentration problems is clearly discernable. People in this stage often find it difficult to remember current events or to perform complex tasks such as paying bills or managing finances.

Mid Stage:

A person in Mid Stage Alzheimer’s disease will experience confusion about where they are, the date, or season. He or she will be able to remember things about themselves-like their names and the names of their children, but will have trouble remembering details such as their current address or telephone number. People in this stage require some assistance with day-to-day activities.

As Mid Stage Alzheimer’s disease progresses, memory problems worsen and are accompanied by personality changes. A person would require extensive help with activities of daily living including toileting and dressing appropriately. Individuals may tend to wander and experience delusions and disrupted sleep patterns.

Late Stage:

In Late Stage Alzheimer’s disease, individuals will need assistance will all or most of their daily needs-eating, toileting, dressing and walking. Individuals in this stage lose the ability to use meaningful language and eventually even to speak. Along with the loss of speech, individuals in this stage lose the ability to control their movement or to respond to their environment.

30-day Wear Contact Lenses - Pros and Cons

August 19th, 2008

Contact lenses that you can put in and wear continuously for many days are the dream of many contact lens wearers. No fuss about cleaning, storing , inserting or removing them -sounds convenient, doesn’t it? But is it safe? Find out if extended wear contacts are right for you.

How do extended wear contact lenses work?

Most contact lenses are daily wear - you wear them during the day and take them out for the night. Lenses have to be taken out because they partially block the flow of oxygen to your cornea. In other words, your eyes need a rest without contacts.

However, many contact lens wearers wish that they didn’t have to remove their lenses every evening. Knowing this, contact lens manufacturers have worked really hard to develop a contact lens material that doesn’t block oxygen and would allow you to wear your lenses for several days - or even weeks - without risk to your health.

Modern technology allows the production of contact lenses that let through approximately six times more oxygen than ordinary soft contact lenses. Lenses intended for extended wear are made of extra-permeable silicone hydrogel materials and “breathe” so well that oxygen deprivation is no longer a problem, even if you wear your lenses for several days.

Are extended wear contact lenses safe?

Lenses that are FDA approved for extended wear, like Focus Night and Day or Acuvue 2, are safe if you follow your doctor’s instructions. They feel quite comfortable for many days, unless you have very sensitive eyes.

The only problem with extended wear contact lenses is that since you don’t clean them every day, tiny particles of dust can accumulate on them.

To prevent this keep to the following rules:

  • Avoid dusty rooms
  • Stay away from cigarette smoke
  • Try to keep the water away from your eyes when showering and wear tight goggles
    while swimming
  • Never wear your contact lenses longer than your doctor recommends. Remember weekly disposable extended wear lenses should be thrown away once a week and 30 day wear lenses can only last a month, not a day longer.

Also to minimize the risk of eye infection it is very important to pay attention to how your eyes feel and not to ignore any unpleasant symptoms. If your eyes feel irritated or simply uncomfortable, take the lens out immediately and give your eye 6-8 hours rest. Rinse the lens well before putting it back in. And if discomfort continues, don’t ignore it, see your doctor. Maybe extended wear lenses are not for you after all.

Which extended wear contacts are available on the market?

Two brands of extended wear contact lenses are FDA approved for 30 day continuous wear - Focus Night and Day by Ciba Vision and PureVision by Bausch & Lomb. Other lenses can be worn for a week without removal. The most popular of these is Acuvue by Johnson and Johnson

Are extended wear contact lenses more expensive than the regular contacts?

Surprisingly, the price difference isn’t that big. Extended wear contact lenses are slightly more expensive that the usual weekly or monthly disposable contacts, and they are cheaper than daily disposables. Also, since you will wear your contacts for a week or a month and then discard them, you save on cleaning and storing solution. So cost is not an issue when it comes to extended wear contacts.

If the idea of wearing contact lenses continuously for several days appeals to you, ask your doctor if extended wear contacts will work for you.

Shrimp Cheesecake

August 17th, 2008

Time after time I wondered about making this particular cheesecake; will it be good or will it be a fly by night idea? After all, who ever heard of putting shrimp into cheesecake?! Well it turned out to be a fantastic idea and you just can’t believe how good it really is…

1 pounds cream cheese (get a good solid cream cheese)
1/2 pound sour cream
1 1/2 pounds fresh medium shrimp
1/3 cup green bell peppers chopped fine
1/3 cup red bell peppers chopped fine
1 large clove garlic minced
2 ounces butter
3 medium eggs
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/3 cup heavy cream
6 ounces shredded New York State sharp Cheese
pepper as you like it

Lining For Pan:
10 ounces dried unflavored bread crumbs
6 ounces melted butter

Tomato Sauce:
1/4 cup chopped onions
1 medium bay leaf
1 1/2 teaspoons dried italian seasoning
1 clove minced garlic
2 tablespoon olive oil
28 ounces crushed tomatoes (canned)

Cook, clean, and chop your shrimp.

Saute peppers, garlic, onions in 2 ounces melted butter for 6-7 minutes on medium heat, add your shrimp and cook for 2 more minutes, drain well and put aside.

Beat your cream cheese so it is smooth, then add your sour cream and mix until fairly fluffy, add your eggs one at a time mixing well after each one.

On low speed gradually add the heavy cream until blended. Stir in the shrimp and vegitable mixture and sharp cheese now add the pepper.

Prepair your 10inch x 2inch spring form pan:

In a medium mixing bowl place your bread crumbs and your melted butter, blend them together well.

Using melted butter with a pastry brush butter the sides of your spring form pan.

pres the buttered bread crumbs to the sides of the pan and the remainder to the bottom of the pan.

Pour the cheesecake into the pan and place in a preheated 300 degree oven for 55 minutes or until jelled( it might be slightly wiggly in the center but not much ) after 55 minutes shut OFF the oven and let it remain in there for 3 hours, then remove it and let it cool, when cool, remove it from the pan.

Prepair your tomato sauce while your cheesecake is cooling:

Saute your onions, garlic and Italian seasoning and bay leaf in hot oil until vegitables are tender, add your tomatoes, simmer about 30 minutes uncovered on low heat or until you reach your desired consistency, remove the bay leaf from your sauce.

Serve hot over room temperature cheesecake.

Don’t Just be a Real Estate Agent, be a Professional!

August 10th, 2008

Buyer Broker Agreement? What’s that? Most agents don’t ask their potential buyers to sign anything. It is too…well…you know…uncomfortable. Hmmmmmmm.

A professional is viewed as a professional for a reason. They value their own time and energy as well as their clients. Of all the paperwork required, I often wonder why the Buyer Broker Agreement isn’t required.

Personally, I take anywhere from 40 to 50 phone calls per day from my listing signs. Most of these individuals do not have an agent or they are not happy with their agent’s performance. When someone calls without representation, I also extend an offer of my services, but there is a catch, they must be willing to sign a buyer broker agreement. Why? It is the right thing to do. I often hear agents griping about how people run them ragged and use them up and then go and buy from someone else from a sign or perhaps a for sale by owner. In my opinion, this is the agents lack of educating their clients on the value, they, the agent, bring to the deal.

Even though I have a high energy level and run at high speed most of the time, there are times when it can still catch up to me. Prioritizing, organizing and actually roping in time, is certainly a challenge. One of the ways this can be done is to fully commit to my clients and like a good marriage, why would the commitment only be one sided? After all, if I was committed to my husband and he was not committed to me, it seems a bit unequal, unfair, and even unhealthy to continue in such a relationship, doesn’t it?

Many people talk about commitment as if it is stomach gas. First they feel committed, then they don’t feel committed. I don’t think commitment is a feeling at all! True commitment is a conscience decision to follow something through to completion and give it your all to make it work.

I met a man once that wanted to do business with me. He continued to talk about his high level of commitment and integrity. He didn’t talk about it in a way of saying he valued integrity, he talked about how he just had integrity. Integrity, like any character trait is not something we have….people don’t just have patience. These traits must first be recognized and then developed.

When it came time to do business with this same man I asked for the terms we had agreed to in writing. He became angry and said his word was his word and he didn’t need to put it in writing. He said I was questioning his integrity and he didn’t like it. In return, I simply stated that everyone that I knew that had integrity, didn’t have a problem putting it in writing. Hmmmmmmm. This didn’t make him happy. But of course, it is not my job to make other people happy is it?

The next time someone asks you to look for a home…take a minute and say, I have a slot open to help you find a home…and…let me tell you how I work…at this point, explain the buyer broker agreement to them in depth…tell them it is not about obligating them…it is about YOU committing to them fully.

Professionals protect their clients and want what is in the clients best interest. If you are not giving your buyers your commitment in writing, you are not doing them any favors. Buyer Broker Agreements also protect your clients from the wolves out there that will hound them and beat them up. Do what is right and best for everyone and take control of your business. Be a professional! Use a Buyer Broker Agreement with all of your clients.

Centrino Two Gaming Laptops Being Introduced by Big Manufacturers

August 8th, 2008

Gaming laptops were once only for the rich and not for the mainstream consumer. I highly doubt they sold in any remarkable volumes but they certainly produced lots of money for the system builders. They were the kind of notebook that everybody desired, but the cost didn’t fall in their price range. Plainly they were the best laptop computers available for purchase. As much as I wanted one I was not able to afford to buy laptop computers like them. In the present things vary a lot with tier 1 companies also releasing gaming laptops.

These are certainly high margin notebooks for the large brands and they are aware of it. Nowadays the mainstream laptop computer margins are very small so it presents the chance for them to regain the gross profits. In my opinion bigger manufacturers can utilize leverage to induce prospects to buy laptop computers regardless of cost. This is a giant threat to smaller specialist resellers. Now potential buyers will have greater choice it makes it hard for the small system builders. In addition the big brand name will give people increased confidence.

I guess they surely are releasing a few of the best laptop computers out to buy. This is a prime opportunity the littler competition must employ to their benefit. The customisation factor is a large plus to the potential buyer. I reckon the consumers that purchase gaming laptops typically know what they’re looking for. More often than not these types of customers are to a greater extent concerned with the specifications than the aesthetics.

This is all really good from the customers perspective. In the end, the prices will be brought down even further causing premium technology to be an alternative that we will all be able to afford. I write that a little hesitatingly however as the notebooks business is an extremely fast changing place. The best laptop computers are usually going to be high priced if I’m telling the truth. We will find out what we can expect from the gaming notebook sectors big players.
